LAKE AUMAN SPORTS CLUB

A hearty welcome to Seven Lakes West! Before deciding to make this your home, you undoubtedly tested the waters of resident satisfaction. It’s a safe bet that you found an exuberant endorsement of the area and the quality of life it offers. We truly hope your experience is equally pleasing.

We want to acquaint you with our club and its charter.  About 6 years ago, a small core of foresighted civic-minded residents saw a need to preserve the integrity of the Lake Auman. Seizing upon a way to ensure the quality, beauty and welfare of the lake water and its many enjoyments, they founded the Lake Auman Sports Club. Its mission is to enhance the value of Lake Auman for residents by providing programs that improve fishing, promote more enjoyment from fishing, and by sponsoring other sports programs based on the surveyed interest of the club members and the community.

Being spring-fed, Lake Auman has many positive attributes. However, it does have a couple of deficiencies, notably, inadequate natural food and cover.  Addressing the latter concern, the Lake Auman Sports Club recently completed its fifth annual Christmas Tree drop.   Each year, we anchor hundreds of Christmas trees at strategic locations. This provides shelter critically needed for small fry survival. At appropriate times we restock the lake with select species of fish.  The club also sells fish food to supplement the limited natural supply. Proceeds from this activity fund other projects to protect the purity and enjoyment of this “crown jewel” of the region.

We are proud to be “good citizens” by sponsoring other broader appeal community projects, i.e.

·         Clear the lake shore of debris each year

·         Built and installed a Kids fishing pier at Johnson Point

·         Purchased a large BBQ grill at Johnson Point for community use

·         Built and installed 100 plus bluebird houses

·         Conducted boat safety testing program

·         Arranged a survey of fish health and population by the NC Fish & Game Dept.

·         Built and installed a dock at Pine Island for community recreational use

·         Donated a new TV and cart to the West Side Park Community Center

·         Purchased and installed park benches at Johnson Point

Our quarterly newsletter, The Sports Line, keeps members informed of our diverse activities, including social activities for the family. Our monthly meetings are open forums for discussion of key items of interest and include post meeting social activities.

Membership is open to all Westside property owners. Annual dues are a modest $15 and are used  to fund projects. Our modest overhead is covered by intra-club activities such as a 50/50 drawing at each meeting whereby half of the money collected is donated to the club treasury.

While “hands-on”, active participation is most desirable, passive membership at least affords greater awareness of the clubs activities and produces more funds for other beneficial tasks.

Any Westside landowner who shares the concerns of the Lake Auman Sports Club and wishes to support its works – physically or financially, should contact Ron McGaughey at 673 4716 or e-mail him at  ronditaann@nc.rr.com.

We meet the second Tuesday of every month.  Won’t you join us.

Best Regards
